The Importance of Water Consumption

 

Good news friends! I am so excited to tell you about a little-known, ultimate health drink. Better than any energy drink on the market, this drink actually provides your body what it needs to make energy on a cellular level. Not only that, but when consuming this drink, almost everything else you eat and drink will be distributed and utilized more effectively. This drink helps your body stay cool when the weather is hot, and warm when the weather is cold. It helps control hunger, and regular consumption will even improve your looks! This drink is so amazing YOU CANNOT LIVE WITH OUT IT.

It’s water! That’s right, good old-fashioned H2O. Water is the original energy and health drink and still the best. We all know we are supposed to drink it, but ... (fill in the blank with your excuse). I get it, starting a healthy habit is daunting and difficult. So many of us want to start out perfectly when it comes to healthy habits. If we can’t master it quickly we think, why even bother? But the point, my friends, is to start.

First, pay attention to how much water you are currently drinking — pure water, because most drinks with caffeine, carbonation or sodium actually dehydrate you. Once you are aware of your current consumption set reasonable, achievable goals for yourself.

I have found consuming about half my body weight in ounces is the minimum I need to feel my best! This is probably true for most people. Find an easy, reliable, consistent way for you to track your intake. Would a reminder on your phone help? What about writing down how many eight ounce glasses you’ve had each day? Personally, I use my two Hydroflasks everyday. One is 64 ounces and the other 24 ounces. Not only do they keep my water nice and cold, but when I drink both, I know I’m where I need to be hydration-wise!

If you struggle with the motivation to make a lifestyle change, set up a reward system for yourself until you’ve mastered your goals. As with any lifestyle change, be patient and kind with yourself. You will have days when you don’t meet your goals, and that is ok! Tomorrow is a new day. Forgive yourself, make a plan to overcome, and start the next day even more determined to triumph.

OK, I’ll get off my soapbox after one last thought. We are what we repeatedly do, and the quality of our lives comes down to the choices we make everyday. One simple choice, as easy as drinking water, can empower us to make even more healthy choices. Choice by choice, day-by-day, habit-by-habit, we build our life.
