In the 1960s and 70s Arthur Ashe was a well-known, top-ranked tennis professional. He won titles at Wimbledon and both the U.S. and Australian Open tournaments, as well as three Grand Slam titles. As an African-American man raised in a single-parent home in the South during a troubled time in our nation, Ashe would have been no stranger to difficulties, set backs and trials.
This quote reminds us to stop waiting on different circumstances and start from where we are right now. If we keep waiting, dwelling on the resources we don't have, we will never succeed. But if we start small — where we are, with what we have, doing all we can — our resources, influence and impact will grow. Do not let discouragement keep you from realizing what you are capable of in the moment.
